My Approach

Great design happens when talented teams have clear processes, strong relationships, and the trust to take risks. As a design leader, I focus on creating the conditions where both people and ideas can flourish.

My UX Philosophy & Process

I believe my role as a design leader is to create solutions that delight users while meeting business needs. Products and services should provide meaningful experiences that solve real problems and add genuine value to people’s lives.

A User-Centered, Evidence-Based Approach

My design philosophy mirrors the scientific method: formulate testable hypotheses, design experiments to validate them, gather data, and draw evidence-based conclusions. This iterative approach ensures we’re always learning and improving.

My typical UX design process follows six key stages:

Strategic Planning

Understanding the full scope before we begin is essential for success. I define product goals, establish success metrics, identify potential challenges, and create initial assumptions about users and use cases.

Outcome

A shared understanding of what we’re building and why.

Discovery & Problem Definition

The foundation of great design is understanding real problems. Through user research, competitive analysis, and hypothesis validation, we build clear problem definitions.

Outcome

Clear problem definition backed by user insights, reducing risk of building the wrong solution.

Ideation

Collaborative generation of diverse, creative solutions. We transform user needs and business goals into concrete design concepts through structured brainstorming and prioritization.

Outcome

A focused set of validated concepts ready for development.

Design & Prototyping

Bringing ideas to life through collaborative design and rapid prototyping. We create everything from sketches to high-fidelity prototypes that stakeholders and users can evaluate.

Outcome

Tangible representations of solutions that can be interacted with and evaluated.

Testing & Analysis

Validating designs with real users and data before full implementation. We conduct usability testing and quantitative experiments to measure impact and identify improvements.

Outcome

Evidence-based insights that guide iteration and build confidence in solutions.

Iteration

Continuous improvement based on learning and changing needs. This mindset applies throughout the entire process—no design is perfect on the first try.

Outcome

Refined solutions that achieve both user and business goals through cycles of testing and learning.

💡 Important Note:

This is a flexible playbook, not a rigid process. Every project is different, and I adapt the approach based on constraints, timelines, and existing knowledge. Sometimes we jump straight to validation if the problem is already well-defined.

My Leadership Style

Servant Leadership at the Core

I’m a servant leader with a people-first mindset. I prioritize my team’s growth and well-being because fulfilled, empowered team members consistently produce exceptional work.

The principles that guide my leadership:

Listening

I commit to fully understanding each team member’s perspective, challenges, and ideas before making decisions.

Empathy

I invest time in getting to know my team as individuals so I can provide personalized support and growth opportunities.

Building Community

Strong relationships are the foundation of high-performing teams. I foster trust and collaboration that makes everyone more productive.

Commitment to Growth

I prioritize resources and time for individual development, whether through formal training, mentoring, or stretch assignments.

Self-Awareness

I understand my own strengths and limitations, and I’m transparent about them with my team.

Conceptualization

I maintain the big-picture vision while empowering my team to own the details of execution.

Persuasion

I influence through shared understanding rather than authority, ensuring everyone is aligned and motivated.

Stewardship

I lead by example, demonstrating the behaviors and standards I expect from my team.

Adaptive Leadership for Individual Growth

Every team member brings unique strengths, learning styles, and motivations. Rather than using a one-size-fits-all approach, I adapt my management style to elevate each person’s individual strengths and provide the right opportunities for growth.

My approach focuses on:

  • Setting clear strategic vision while giving teams autonomy in execution
  • Providing frameworks that enable success rather than prescriptive task lists
  • Building self-confidence and decision-making abilities in each team member
  • Creating opportunities for bottom-up innovation and leadership

Results Through Empowerment

I believe the best results come from empowered teams who understand the vision, trust each other, and have the support they need to take calculated risks. My role is to remove obstacles, provide strategic guidance, and celebrate both successes and learning from failures.

These principles aren’t just theory. They’re the foundation of how my teams have achieved measurable results like generating $461M in incremental revenue through systematic UX experimentation.
